Overview

The United Business Card is a great option for travelers who have to fly for work, even if it’s only once in a while. It offers a reasonable $0 introductory annual fee for the first year, then $99 thereafter. New cardholders can earn 75,000 bonus miles after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first three months your account is open, plus take advantage of bonus earning opportunities on United purchases as well as dining, gas, office supply stores and local transit and commuting. Make more than seven United flight-related travel purchases each year and you’ll get a $100 statement credit, plus earn 5,000 bonus miles each year if you also carry one of United’s personal credit cards.

Pros

  • Earns 2 miles per $1 spent in a variety of categories, including United purchases, dining (including eligible delivery services), gas, office supplies and more
  • Get a $100 United travel credit after qualifying purchases each year
  • If you have a personal United card, too, you can earn 5,000 bonus miles each year
  • Open employee cards at no additional cost

Cons

  • Redemption options are mostly limited to United and its partners
  • Other United cards have higher earning rates on some purchases
  • You might get more use from transferable points instead of United miles

Who is this card good for?

This card is best for folks looking for a business card who fly United regularly, but not enough to earn elite status on their own. That’s because it confers airline-specific, day-of-travel perks like free checked bag, priority boarding, and a 25% discount on inflight Wi-Fi (and food and beverages), and you don’t have to take dozens of flights or spend thousands of dollars a year on tickets to enjoy them.

Earning Rewards

This card can help you rack up United miles quickly thanks to the fact that it earns 2 miles per dollar on purchase from United as well as on dining (including eligible delivery services), gas stations, office supply stores and on local transit and commuting. It earns 1 mile per dollar on other purchases.
