The Fairlane Hotel

Retro Revival

What it is

Inspired by the best design of the 1970s, with a nostalgic Mid Century restaurant the locals love.

What it isn't

Jonesing for a caffeine hit. The hotel’s Union Teller coffee shop and breakfast joint is a Nashville favorite for oversized house-made bagels (they come back at lunch for note-perfect reubens and matzo ball soup).

What we think

When your hotel is housed in the 1972 HQ of Fidelity Federal Savings and Loan—terrazzo flooring and brass detailing intact—you’d be a fool *not* to take advantage of a throwback theme. But few could do it so well as Fairlane, which makes the experience thoroughly modern. Take the guest rooms, each tricked out with floor-to-ceiling windows, marble showers (with toiletries from New York City’s botanically-based Five Wits), and mini bars stocked with locally-made snacks. It’s worth booking a Corner King for up to 408-square-feet of breathing room and wraparound windows that peep out on the surrounding cityscape.

You're here because

You’re hosting a party, and the 1,805-square-foot penthouse suite has a hanging fireplace and fire pit-dotted terrace that would wow Bianca Jagger herself.

The Moment

Time travel isn’t real. You know that. And you can’t help but feel, when you step into Ellington’s, that you’ve been transported to Nashville circa 1965, a Nashville you never knew. You order lobster thermidor and a banana daiquiri and wait for the liquid courage to ask for a rare Padron 1964 Anniversary Cigar, aged for four years—and delicious with every puff.
